Jeremiah Dawson, CEO of Summer Safe, founded the organization to provide a safe, confidence-building community for students to spend the summer, away from cycles of gun violence in their neighborhoods. Due to his personal experience living in an area affected by gun violence, Dawson created Summer Safe to offer kids in similar situations a safe, loving environment to keep them out of harm’s way while providing opportunities for growth and development.
We Are Urban Dreams, Inc. (WAUDI)
WAUDI empowers young men to disrupt cycles of violence, helping them make positive changes in their lives and their wider community. WAUDI creates space for middle and high-school-aged boys to build self-confidence and learn coping strategies to prepare them for the next chapter of life. Amon Rashidi, Executive Director of WAUDI, explains, “My idea is to teach boys to become men so they can become responsible fathers, brothers, uncles, and play the major role [in the community] that is missing.” By cultivating a positive and supportive environment, we teach brotherhood & self-accountability while providing an alternative to violence.
EMBC Men’s Connect Spiritual Boot Camp
EMBC Boot Camp works with individuals of all ages and backgrounds in Indianapolis’ northeast side neighborhoods offering holistic support for the entire community to combat gun violence and repair the social fabric. Pastor Darryl Webster, the founder of EMBC Boot Camp, explains, “We tell men that our job is to love you, lead you, and lift you through learning and teaching to create real-life change. We can’t help the hand you’re dealt, but we have to play.” EMBC Boot Camp empowers individuals to disrupt cycles of violence in their communities by cultivating relationships and encouraging boys and men to uncover their innate potential.
