Healing Conversations
An atmosphere where empathy and understanding are prioritized
This is where healing conversations about racial injustice can thrive, and where citizens and organizations can collaboratively work towards healing in their communities. We believe that healing begins with understanding, and through compassionate conversations, we can bridge divides and build stronger, more united communities. Whether you’re here to listen, learn, or lead, your presence and participation are essential to our collective journey toward racial justice.
Your story, your voice, your commitment—each is a vital part of the conversation. Welcome to a community where healing and hope flourish, and where every step forward is a step toward a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
Click here for helpful guidelines to ensure a supportive and productive environment.
- Adopt a contribution mindset, rather than a deficiency mindset. Focus on what you and each person can contribute to advance healing rather than dwelling on past grievances.
- Engage actively in discussions by sharing your thoughts, experiences, and insights. Your voice is important, and your contributions help shape the conversation and foster collective understanding.
- Speak from personal experience rather than generalizing, and avoid blame or defensiveness. Share your experiences and feelings openly while also empathizing with the experience of others, even if they differ from your own.
- Be prepared to challenge your own assumptions and consider new perspectives.
- Listen to each other without judgment. Never assume and always ensure you have a good understanding before responding.
- Create space for every voice to be heard and respected. Validate the experiences and feelings shared by participants, particularly those with lived experience.
- When possible, move beyond dialogue to actionable steps. Brainstorm and commit to concrete actions you can take individually or collectively to foster healing.
- Respect confidentiality in the Healing Stream unless individuals explicitly consent to share their stories more widely.
- Avoid personal attacks, derogatory language, and inflammatory remarks. Disagreements should be addressed thoughtfully and respectfully.
- Take responsibility for your words and actions. If you make a mistake, acknowledge it, apologize, and strive to do better. We are all here to learn and improve together.
Thank you for your commitment to our principles and for being part of this important journey.
